In 2014 I decided I wanted to meet up with - ok, wanted a relationship with - a guy (B) I had a real thing about in my early 20s. I started trying to find him (I did eventually meet up with him, but it didn't go anywhere. That's a whole other story I would like to unpick).

In the course of looking him up I contacted a number of other people and one of them, his old University friend (N), emailed me back and we have been in regular contact since. I live in the North of England and he lives on the Cornish coast, and we are in touch, I would say, each week. 

I love receiving his messages, we have so much to chat about and he is really interesting and funny. I get really excited when I see an email in my inbox from him. It's not in the least romantic, but I'm so pleased about it. 

We never mention B at all in conversation and haven't done for over two years. I've got a brilliant independent friendship out of this. It just goes to show that you never know what is around the corner.

I'd still like to catch up with B, though. Not sure how to go about that one!
