Re: building confidence

Adding to what Persephone has beautifully outlined,  I also sat one day and thought about all the people who inspire me and why.  This included characters from movies and fairytales..  And then I devised a spectacular set of affirmations for myself based on all their qualities.  And then every morning I said them to myself in the mirror.  And strangely,  one day I started to BELIEVE in them..  And now lots of people complement me on certain aspects of myself..  And I know they have come from believing in my affirmations.  😊💜🌈

If you imagine it in your mind..
Believe it in your heart..
Feel it in your soul..
You will hold it in your hand 💞

This message wasn't for me, but I want to thank you for this advice. And I want this bed, me too ☺

You're very welcome! And the advice was for you, it's for anybody who needs it!

The pretending to be a character (or anybody you admire, real-life hero for example) technique comes from The Inner Game of Music and The Inner Game of Tennis, but my favourite explanation of it comes from a YA novel that I like, Clockwork Angel:

‘Sometimes, when I have to do something I don’t want to do, I pretend I’m a character from a book. It’s easier to know what they would do.’
‘Really? Who do you pretend you are? D’Artagan?’ Tessa asked, naming the only one of the Three Musketeers that she could remember.
“‘It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done,’ Will quoted. ‘It is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known.’”
‘Sydney Carton? But you said you hated A Tale Of Two Cities!’
‘I don’t really,’ Will seemed unabashed by his lie.
‘And Sydney Carton was a dissipated alcoholic.’
‘Exactly. There was a man who was worthless and knew he was worthless, and yet however far down he tried to sink his soul, there was always some part of him capable of great action.’

And I find that inspiring.

Thank you for this, Cherished, I've started to do it too!! I always have trouble believing my affirmations though - is it just the process of repetition that helps to build the belief, or is there some other trick to it, too?

Re: building confidence

It's a combination of repetition and raising your vibration. When you reach higher vibrations you realise that actually you CAN simply become what you are affirming.  That reality already exists,  you only need to find the frequency of it.  And so it becomes reality as your belief strengthens.

Re: building confidence

thank you girls  i'm not really struggling with the self-love or confidence in who i am now, i think the switch i made to loving and accepting myself has worked, but i still have issues with confidence in my abilities, which is really silly as i have succeeded so many times and have plenty of talent. but sometimes still, i just get into a negative vibration and i remember all the times i have been stuck in a rut and i feel like i just want to escape my reality altogether, which causes even more resistance.

i will try to be a movie character instead for a time and use those affirmations to make me believe i really am as succsesful as them.
