Admittedly, a lot of my happiness is rooted in other people. I haven't been single in 8 years so I can't remember what it's like to be happy on my own. I feel like I use my relationships/boyfriends as emotional crutches (as I do with alcohol) and it's something I have to work on. I want to find enduring happiness that isn't dependent on anyone or substance abuse.
So I ask: what makes you happy?
Right now, when I'm feeling low, I go straight to this forum to find support and inspiration. This place is seriously like a warm hug haha.
I also have my cats.
And I put on makeup and take selfies.

I color. I also volunteer at an animal shelter where I can spend 4 hours cuddling kittens to help socialize them with humans.
Oh, and I started taking a dance class.

Gabby you're so funny...
I feel like you're in my head because I too can share the same difficulties you have. I was married for 6 years, and before that I have never been single for more than 6 months since I have been dating. This year, heck this past 2 years has been challenging . But as far as I can see things that make me happy change daily. I try to do everything with great passion. I love spending time with my daughter, she's 7 and being involved in her activities. I love love love cooking and entertaining friends. I love love love this forum, it's like my place of refuge when I'm in doubt. I also love dressing up and taking selfies.

I took myself to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods today I am serious about losing the weight I gained from depression It always cheers me up to go to a different grocery store and find new things to try I know I stretched my budget but once in awhile what the heck I love to cook and I have decided I will prepare my meals with care from now on no more single eating out of the pan and frozen things
I love to dance I love to sing and yes I love to get dressed up and feel pretty
I read somewhere about love mandala's so I bought colored pencils and printed a stack off the computer, not sure if it makes me happy but it is calming

Looking back, a lot of my happiness has been dependent on male attention. I bought a book titled Energy Healing for Women and there's a part about life-affirming archetypes. I choose The Nourishing Woman. I am The Nourishing Woman-- someone who has overcome her insecurities, lack of self-esteem and need for male validation.
