I'm feeling heartbroken. He was only 8 months old and never had the chance to grow into a cat. I think I need to get myself feeling better and focus on my other cats.

I'm sorry for your loss.  I have felt the same way when my dogs have died.

I also had a kitten that died within days of getting her when I was a child.

I'm so so sorry There is nothing worse than losing a kitten.  I lost a rescue kitten when I was younger, and my heart still breaks for him.  I'm sorry you are going through this.  No words can make this better, but sending you thoughts of strength and love.  Keeping you in my thoughts.

Thanks all.

Surely this isn't "me pushed out" and I created this, because I absolutely didn't. :'(

No, of course you didn't.

I'm sorry for your loss.
I knew how it felt, my kitten died too when I was a child, and I saw my adult cat had gone forever when I was 20. It's so heartbreaking. :')
Sending love for you and all of your kittens. ❤

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I imagined getting another one just like him but they are quite expensive. Then the breeder called as she found out what had happened and said I can have a second kitten from a future litter free of charge.

It's the next best thing to having the other one come back to life. That was a very kind thing to do. I bought a budgie who died on the eleventh day after I'd bought him. I was already very attached to him and shocked and heartbroken by his sudden, unexplained death. When I took him back to the shop, nobody even pretended to be sorry about it, and they didn't seem to care. I was crying, and all one of them said was 'Do you want to get another one?' I said no and later got another one elsewhere where they cared about the birds they sold and had them checked by vets first.
