Regarding persistent spam posts in Vietnamese

You may have noticed that there have been a barrage of these over the past few weeks. Thank you to those who took the time to report them - this is the first abuse report I have seen since they started back in February. Only this morning I have removed over 35 of these posts about gambling, casinos, poker, pole dancing, property development and haircuts, amongst other bizarre topics. Owing to the coronavirus, working from home and interacting with my students, who are understandably anxious at the moment, in a different way I have had significantly less time to devote to moderating the forum so unfortunately these have been clogging the place up for a while. I have written to Veronica about these today to see if there is any way an anti-spam filter can be applied to get rid of them once and for all.

Re: Regarding persistent spam posts in Vietnamese

I haven't been on here for about a week as I am so busy working at home because of the coronavirus and it is getting towards the end of the academic year and I am busy with students. Although I am a moderator I am not an admin, and don't have the ability to delete accounts. I have contacted Veronica by email twice about these - I guess they are automated spambot accounts and I would love to delete them but don't have the ability. There is another poster, Valkyrie-xo who has not been on here since 20 March and Veronica herself who hasn't been on since 26 February, who are the only two able to delete accounts. It's difficult to know how to get rid of them permanently but I suggest you also contact these admins to delete the accounts as well as raising abuse reports which has at least meant I can delete them.

It is disgraceful that Veronica has known about these spam accounts for as long as she has done and has done nothing whatsoever about them. You, PF, should not have to be the one to tell her repeatedly that she needs to do something about this or that she needs to participate in this forum with her name on it, and it's not your responsibility to try to keep this forum going, even if only in deleting all of the spam posts. Veronica's actions, or rather lack thereof, have spoken only too loudly and clearly about how she really feels about this forum - she couldn't care any less about it. She wants to say she has one, but she wants nothing to do with it, except for self promotion in the effort to get paid 'clients'.

This forum has outlived any usefulness it ever had. None of us who have dedicated so much of our time FOR FREE to try to help other people here are replying any more for good reason, and almost the only posts any more are spam, and they are not only Vietnamese ones, but also some about fake Canadian and French i.d.s that have latched onto existing posts in the guise of replies. You are the only acting moderator who has done any moderating for years, one of the others has never done any at all that I have seen, and the other two haven't been here for years. This forum is a pathetic, hypocritical joke.

Re: Regarding persistent spam posts in Vietnamese

Aw I'm sorry I haven't been on this sooner, it hasn't been my fault actually.  Boardhost has been unreachable and I am actually unable to login on my regular computer.  Somehow my IP has been banned and I have repeatedly tried to contact Boardhost to no avail (I think they may have shut down unfortunately)

However... I manifested a workaround.  I am using a proxy server to login and actually intended to keep better track on this board and to post a lot.  I thought I would look at the most recent posts and found this one.  Ughs.

Never judge a book by it's cover.  I've actually been trying to login and haven't been able to.  I would never abandon this forum.  I have wanted to participate for so long and haven't been able to.  Blame Boardhost for abandoning me, not me abandoning you.

Anyways, I took about an hour to delete and try to clean up what I can.  Hope this sheds some light as to why I haven't been on here.

Thanks for your support and again - try never to see the worst.  What is happening behind the scenes is probably different than what you assume.

Maybe you were just having a bad day.  Hugs anyway <3
