If it were me, since it comes around only once a year, I'd still wish them, but that's entirely just my opinion. I can't say I'm exactly known for making the best choices...

Does thinking about him help you stay happy? If it's a day around him, why don't you do RS/PW and send him love energy? Why not visualize you two together for a while?
